Mighty Thor (Jane Foster)

For the second statue I made for Tidewater Comicon 2022, it was a toss up between Mighty Thor and Scarlet Witch. With some input from others and realizing Thor had a cool hammer prop I made the decision to go with Mighty Thor. Since my previous Thor statue was from Thor: Ragnarok, I didn’t get a change to make Mjolnir 5 years earlier.
At the time I was working on this statue, the trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder had not released yet. Fortunately images of a detailed action figure had been released from a toy show. That’s were I first saw cracked/reforged Mjolnir.
I made Mjolnir like I would have for Thor Odinson. But before I painted it, I had to add the cracks. Using a soldering iron, I burned random cracks into the head of the hammer. These would be filled in with blue acrylic paint after spray painting the hammer with aluminum colored paint.
From the toy images I found on the internet, I tried to figure out all the details to add. The black circles on the forehead were some extra unused traces of the pattern for Doc Ock’s tentacle pieces.
The images on the internet didn’t give me the best angles and resolution to figure out the pattern on the helmet wings.
The details on the chest were a little hard to figure out from the pictures I had. With all the thin silver trim pieces, I had to do a lot of masking to spray paint the silver.
About 2 days before the convention, I was looking at the head and realized I forgot to make the hair. It was something I originally had planned as a separate piece to rest on top of the torso and flow in front of and behind the torso. I didn’t make the hair when I made the head because I didn’t have a complete cape yet and didn’t know how the cape would interact with the hair and torso. My daughter had to finish the cape after she got back from college with just a few days before the convention.
