Loki

LEGO Loki was one of two statues I made for Hampton Comicon on October 21st, 2017. With Thor: Ragnarok coming to theaters just a few short weeks later, we chose to do Thor and Loki.

The biggest challenge of the Loki project was the helmet. The horns on the helmet were massive and made it the largest single foam piece I have done to date. The curl in the horns was so large I had to split the horn into two pieces. The split in the template is what generated a slight flattening in the curve where the two halves came together.

I was also concerned about the weight of the helmet. After Thor’s original head collapsed under the weight of his helmet, I created a cardboard “peg” that rested in the collar of the torso piece and was tall enough to support the center of the inside of the helmet the night before I presented this at Hampton Comicon. Fortunately this seemed to hold the weight of helmet for the entire show. In the future, if I think the helmet/hair of a LEGO statue will be too heavy, I’m going to use the inner support cylinder that I designed for Thor.

The other interesting part of Loki was his two daggers. It was difficult to get a good reference other than a short flash during one of the trailers. Because it was such a blur, I won’t know if the color was right until I watch the full movie.
